Product sheet Nordic Green Roof® Water retaining mat VH1200 and Drain mat/Drän 9 and 17 and Nordic Green Roof™ edge strips
The sedum mat system consists of various components depending on the slant of the roof, the climate, sunlight and shade, and the customer’s wishes. System installation: see product sheets Water retaining mat VH 1200 and Drain mat/DRÄN 9 and 17.
The Nordic Green Roof® drain mat/DRÄN 9 and 17 is made of three-dimensional net, which has been thermally glued together with a filtering fibre fabric. The spiral net mat can be used either side up. It can be affixed with rocks (grain size approx. 4-8 mm) onto weakly slanted roof surfaces.
VH1200 Water retaining mat
Made with recycled rags, the water retaining mat is a good and ecological water reservoir, installed on top of a drain mat.
Nordic Green Roof® Edge strip product cards
Ready-made perforated stainless steel edge strips for eaves available. The edge strip is glued in place with strips of bitumen.

FERTILIZATION
When the roof is installed a long-term fertilizer is added (Nordic Green Roof® Frisol fertilizer 100g/m²), which will ensure growth for 1 – 3 years.
For a generous flowering, fertilizer needs to be added every second year. We recommend fertilization every 2-3 years with Nordic Green Roof® Frisol long-term fertilizer 100g/m² or similar.
The time of the year when the installation is done is of no consequence when the aforementioned fertilizer is used. Otherwise fertilization should be done in spring.
IRRIGATION
To maintain an even growth irrigation must be provided during long periods of drought, so that the sedum will not dry. Withered vegetation will start to grow again after rainfall. However, normal periods of drought are important for the elimination of airborne weed seedlings
LEAVES AND FIR/PINE NEEDLES
If there are leaves and needles on the green roof, these have to be blown or raked away. If a thick layer of leaves is left on the roof, the sedum vegetation may die.
TREE BRANCHES
To get a strong, healthy sedum vegetation, shading tree branches need to be moved away. Branches that damage the roof or green roof need to be taken away. The damaged spots can be filled in with Nordic Green Roof® substrate and sedum cuttings.
WEEDS
The substrate for the sedum green roof is mineralbased and thusly weeds don't normally thrive in it. Airborne weed seeds don't have the strenght to grow in the thin structure and die during the dry season. When installing the sedum on the ground, surrouding grass and hay areas can spread into the sedum mat. When installing on the ground a weed control fabric should be used.
PATCHING THE GREEN ROOF
The repair material, sedum cuttings, can be cut from the existing vegetation or ordered from the supplier. The cuttings and substrate is installed on the damaged spots and irrigation should be provided until the vegetation is restored. A shading fabric can be used temporarily. The best result is achieved if the repair is done between May and September. Otherwise the damaged spots may also repair themselves when the remaining vegetation is growing and spreding naturally.
WATER MANAGEMENT ON THE ROOF
Make sure the perforated green roof edgings don't get filled with leaves or other vegetation. The roof outlets and gutters should normally be cleaned every spring and autumn.
